Are YOU Engaged as a Manager?

Managers, YOU can make a difference!

The relationship between the direct supervisor and the employee if the most critical. Well and frequently engaged managers can make a HUGE difference in the morale, productivity and life of your company. Learn how to be an Engaged Manager with these 8 steps:

Get in the habit. Manage each day!
  • Make one-on-one sessions routine
Learn to talk to employees like a performance coach.
  • Be both demanding and supportive
  • Describe performance honestly
  • Develop concrete next steps
Take it one person at a time. This is not a one-size-fits-all.
  • Ask yourself "What do I need to talk to THIS person about"
Make accountability real.
  • Follow up on what you ask them to do
  • Focus on concrete actions directly in their control
Don't be shy about telling people what to do and how to do it. How can they meet expectations if it isn't clear? Ask your employee:
  • How might you approach this assignment?
  • Can you do this? What do you need from me?
  • What steps will you take?
Track performance at each step.
  • Good, bad, average?! Let them know.
Do more for some, less for others. Give people what they need
  • Be generous and flexible with your time and direction
Solve small problems before they get big.
  • Rely on daily or weekly conversations
  • Addressing one small problem after another is what continuous performance improvement looks like!
